Emotions are communication.
Simple as that.
Your emotions tell you when you are in alignment with your Higher Self. They tell you where your focus is in the moment.
Your True Self is Love.
Your True Self is Peace.
Your True Self is Joy.
And because of that, thoughts that are aligned with your Inner Being feel good to you.
Good feeling thoughts create good feeling emotions.
The emotions are the communication taking place between you and You about your focus.
Your Inner Being is constantly communicating with you, guiding you toward all the things you have been asking for, becoming, and dreaming about.
I like to think of it as the old “Hot and Cold” game.
Remember playing that as a child? You would search for something while someone guided you by saying “hotter” or “colder.”
Same idea.
When you feel good, you are getting warmer.
You are focused in a direction that is aligned with your Soul.
When you feel uncomfortable, frustrated, fearful, angry, or disconnected, you are getting colder.
You have simply turned your focus in a direction that doesn’t match the truth of who you really are.
And that’s important to understand.
Your emotions are not punishment.
They are guidance.
Now sometimes a subject feels really big.
There may be years of fear, disappointment, hurt, or negative momentum wrapped around it, and suddenly reaching for joy feels impossible.
That’s okay.
This is where becoming sensitive to how you are feeling becomes so valuable.
Instead of trying to leap all the way to happiness, simply reach for a thought that brings a little relief.
Just a little better.
Sometimes that better feeling may not sound spiritual at all.
Sometimes “better” sounds like frustration instead of hopelessness.
Sometimes it sounds like blame instead of despair.
Sometimes it sounds like worry instead of fear.
And that’s still movement.
This is where the Emotional Guidance Scale becomes so helpful.
It allows you to identify where you are emotionally and gently reach for the next emotion up instead of trying to force yourself somewhere you are not ready to be.
One of the most loving things we can do for ourselves is stop judging where we are emotionally and begin understanding what our emotions are trying to tell us.
